One of the most unique Caribbean islands is St. Martin. This island is both a Dutch and French territory dating back to the colonial era. However, this does not prevent the islands from being one of the top small island vacation destinations in the Caribbean. Hotels in St. Martin are some of the best in the region. Moreover, the country has an international airport which connects the country to major international destinations in Europe and North America. St. Martin is located 150 miles Southeast of Puerto Rico in the Leeward Islands.  The northern section of the island is French and the Southern section of the island is Dutch.

These resorts are also family friendly resorts so visitors can enjoy a Dutch Caribbean vacation taste.  On the French side of the island which is the northern part of the country you will also find some lovely resorts as well. Some of the top hotels in St. Martins are Mercure St Martin and Marina, Pavillon Beach Residence Esmeralda Resort, La Samanna, and Alamanda Resort. These are also excellent family resorts well.

The island is not short on things to do on a vacation on the island as well. There are the exciting water sports activities like para-sailing, scuba diving and snorkeling. The opportunity also exists to go surfing in St. Martin with excellent waves during the winter months of the year. Additionally, the country offers the opportunity to go skydiving as well as going horseback riding amongst other fun activities. The country also has a host of lovely beach that you will enjoy as well.

The island of St. Martin is one of the most unique small Caribbean islands. Its colonial past is so deeply entrenched that it is still a colony of both the Netherlands and France. You can therefore say that the country is a lovely place to visit because the colonial masters have kept it under their control even up to today.
